Help & support

Straight answers about your account, your data, and billing. Can't find it here? Email support@openwalletfinance.com.

Getting started
How do I link my bank?

Go to Accounts and choose Add account. We use Plaidto connect to your bank: your bank username and password are entered directly into Plaid's secure window — we never see, receive, or store them.

Because linking is a sensitive action, we first ask you to re-verify with a one-time code (step-up multi-factor authentication). Once linked, your balances and transactions sync automatically.

Can Open Wallet move my money?

No — and we couldn't if we tried. Our access through Plaid is read-only: we cannot initiate transactions, move money, or modify your financial accounts in any way. We also never have your bank login credentials — those go directly to Plaid.

Your data
What do you store?

The transactions, balances, account details, and recurring items we sync from Plaid (we retain up to roughly 24 months of transaction history), plus what you create in the app — budgets, savings pockets, goals, and preferences. Plaid access tokens are stored server-side only, encrypted, and bound to your account; they never touch your browser.

Everything is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256). The full picture is in our Privacy Policy.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Open the Account page and choose Download my data— an export of your account metadata, transactions, budgets, and pockets, available any time, whether or not you're currently subscribed.

How do I delete my account and everything you hold?

From the Account page, choose Delete account and type "delete my account" to confirm. We immediately revoke the bank connection at Plaid and permanently delete all of your data from our systems within 24 hours.

Deletion only works in-app while you're signed in — we don't accept deletion requests by email, so nobody but you can delete your account.

Billing
How does the free trial work?

New members get 7 days free. A valid payment method is required to start the trial, but you won't be charged during it — cancel before it ends and you pay nothing.

New members get 7 days free, then $12.99/month plus applicable tax (charged today if you've already used your free trial); it auto-renews at that price until you cancel — cancel anytime in Settings → Billing.

What does it cost?

$12.99/month, or $99.99/year (about 36% less), plus applicable tax. One plan, everything included — details on the pricing page.

How do I cancel?

Any time: go to Settings → Billing and choose Manage billing & cancel — the secure Stripe billing portal opens, where you can cancel, update your card, or view invoices. You can also email support@openwalletfinance.comand we'll take care of it.

Cancelling stops future charges and keeps your access until the end of the period you've paid for. Your data is kept so you can pick up where you left off if you come back — if you want everything erased instead, delete your account (see above).

Using the app
What are Pockets?

Pockets are virtual envelopes over one real account balance: split a single balance into named buckets — rent, a trip, a rainy-day fund — without opening any new accounts. The allocation always adds up to the real balance, so you can see what every dollar is set aside for and what's still unallocated.

How does the budget work?

The Budget tab tracks your spending by category against monthly limits, built from the real transactions in your linked accounts. Transactions are categorized automatically; when the app isn't sure, they land in a review inbox for a quick confirmation, and your corrections become rules so the same merchant is sorted right next time.

What does Recurring show?

Recurring finds the bills and subscriptions in your transaction history — rent, utilities, streaming — and shows what's coming and roughly when it lands. Detection works from your real transactions, so it can take a billing cycle or two for a brand-new subscription to be recognized.

Troubleshooting
My bank stopped syncing

Bank logins expire from time to time — your bank requires a fresh sign-in. When that happens, a Reconnect banner appears at the top of the Accounts page; balances may be stale until you use it. Tap it, sign in again through Plaid, and syncing resumes.

I opened a new account at my bank and it isn't showing

Re-link the institution from the Accounts page and the new account comes in with it. When your bank reports new accounts to us, the app also shows a prompt on Accounts offering to re-link.
